HALO, Purely for Pets

Happy Hump Day!

Can I tell you that I have seen more doctors in the past few months than I have probably in my entire life – chiropractors, primary doctors, veterinarians?

Ugh!

The past few weeks have been at the vet – take the cat to the vet, take the dog to the vet, take the dog back to the vet – you can see how this has been going.

Chloe the cat – HATES the car. As in makes the worst noises imaginable and pants like a dog.

Daisy – well, she also isn’t a huge fan of the car. Depending on the day she will either just pant, with her mouth open as wide as she can get it and her tongue turning purple, hanging out of her mouth. OR you get the terrible alternative of the drool – EVERY WHERE.

The first trip last week to the vet was just the mad panting.

The last trip was the extreme drool which meant that she spent a majority of her appointment whining because she was dying – dying I tell you – of thirst. You would be too if you drooled all over the car as much as she did!

But everyone is home now and we are all trudging along! J

At the end of the day, I’m doing the best that I can to take care of these creatures that rely solely on me and the hubby to take care of them – to bring them good food and water, love them, and to make tough decisions for them.

The furry little friends definitely make a place in our heart. And for as little as they are – they somehow manage to make a HUGE mark on your life and your soul.

We are currently going through a really tough time with my Chloe and I am just hoping for everything to work out the best way that it possibly can.

“Halo, Purely for Pets evolved from three guiding principles: balance, nature and love. We believe that when these are the basis of pet product development, optimum health, vitality and wellness follow. Our pet products yield amazing results. For the past two decades, we’ve seen the emergence of thousands of radiant, healthy pets whose owners have chosen Halo.

We consider not just the pets, but also the people who love them when we select our ingredients. A healthy pet makes your life better, too. We understand the unconditional love our pets give us and we create products that help you give that love back.”

So this is kind of a funny sidebar to the Halo products – guess who is part owner in Halo. Yep – my favorite! Ellen DeGeneres. She cracks me up!  It makes my entire day when I’m off because I get to stay home and watch Ellen! I don’t personally know her, but I love what I have seen from her. She seems to genuinely care about so many things.  Here is a letter from her: http://www.halopets.com/about/ellen-degeneres.html.

In addition to having a great brand of pet foods and products, there is also the HALO Foundation. “The Halo Pet Foundation’s mission is to enhance the well-being of pets and the people who love them. Inspired by our love for animals, we strive to help pets and their families live longer, happier, healthier lives together. Specifically, we seek to educate people on responsible pet ownership, eliminating animal abuse and reducing the overpopulation of uncared for pets.”
HALO Pet Foundation

A portion of their funding comes from the HALO, Purely for Pets products. They also receive products and services from the HALO people, and they receive contributions from donors and customers of time and cash. To get more information please go to: http://www.halopetfoundation.org/about_the_foundation.html.

There is so much information about HALO, Purely for Pets, and the HALO Foundation that I could go on and on, but I will let you take a look at the parts that you are interested in.

Next time you are going to give your dog or cat a treat (or new food) stop by the HALO section and give them a treat that you can both appreciate!

HAPPYBABY

Weekly Wrap-up!

Yes, the weekend is almost over – boo for that.

But it was a good weekend, and a good week.

We got to spend some time with our besties and their baby yesterday for lunch.

Today I met with a wonderful bunch of women to help with a benefit that I have been assisting with the past few years. I love being able to help others, and I also like to have a chance to utilize my event planning skills that I don’t get to use very often.

Here’s the rundown of the week:

1) Remember how I mentioned a few weeks ago that I was thinking about getting my haircut?
I did it!
What do you think?

2) Strawberries!!!!! They are BACK!!!!!! And they are my favorite – EVER!

3) I don’t know how the weather has been where you are, but I told you that it’s been gorgeous here. Everything is in full bloom and I’m loving it!

4) Now that I’m back to working out – almost in full force, I’m also trying to watch the diet again. Which just means that I want junk food that much more. Like cheese puffs.

5) Have you seen the baby commercials where the little boy is checking out his stocks and investments?
You need to see THIS one – cracks me up EVERY TIME!

And speaking of babies, there is another great company that I would like to tell you about – HAPPYBABY. http://www.happybabyfood.com/

Jedidiah Clothing

All right – I’m completely going to be THAT person!

What can I say?

I’m completely and utterly obsessed with this weather!

Don’t get me wrong – I love frolicking in the sand and the surf in 100 degree weather – when I have sand and surf.

But on normal days, in my usual life, in my everyday world where I have to work and have bills to pay and chores to do and a gym to go to or my dog to walk – this weather is the best!

Well, except for the fact that I have to be at work, in an office, in a cubicle has tall walls that is very high in the building that so I can only be teased by the gorgeous-ness of what it is outside from the very disgusting windows of the building (they are currently working on the building and refuse to wash the windows until the work is done) when I stand up.

I met a friend for lunch today and had a wonderful time, as always! (Thanks Melissa - if you are reading this!)

We had a great lunch, an even better conversation and company, and I got to take a nice little walk to get to the restaurant and enjoy the fab weather. J
*View from where we went to lunch in Market Square in Pittsburgh
Taken by me!
But all of this great weather has also put me full force into wanting new spring/summer clothes mode!

I’m really trying hard to be good, because let’s be realistic – there is NOTHING that I truly NEED!

I have worn a dress and a skirt this week – and yes, I even broke out the bare, almost transparent legs once! (My apologies to the public for having to see that!)

And I have decided that I must have more dresses that are work appropriate!

But I'm getting off topic - as usual. Let's talk about a company that does something good - other than just gush about weather and things that they want!

I found Jedidiah Clothing a few weeks back and I have to say that their clothing really reminds me of being on a fantastic vacation somewhere.  http://www.jedidiahusa.com/

I haven’t purchased anything from them yet, but the shirts just look soft, and soft tees are a SUPER plus in my world!

And I love the designs of so many of them. Fun and cute!

wise•abe

Happy first day of Spring!!!

Today was a great day to have some spring fever!

Here are some pictures (taken by yours truly) from today:

And since we are talking about change tonight with the seasons changing, I think it’s a great time to talk about being able to change a child /or children’s life/lives.

Tonight I want to tell you about wise•abe.  http://www.wiseabe.com/index.html
wise abe - "buy a bag & help send a student to college"
“wise•abe was founded with the idea of creating a business that designs and produces a unique product with the hopes of impacting the impoverished through education”

wise•abe makes messenger bags, clutches, and pillows out of recycled coffee bags.
wise abe - "buy a bag & help send a student to college"wise abe - "buy a bag & help send a student to college"wise abe - "buy a bag & help send a student to college"

It is such a simple concept and one that is working to make a big impact on the future of children.

“When our product is purchased, 10% of the purchase price from each sale benefits Compassion’s Leadership Development Program.

This will help students in poverty-stricken communities have the chance to obtain a college education. We believe education is a key tool that will help release families and communities from poverty.

We are partnering with Compassion’s Leadership Development Program program which gives students who could never afford a formal education the opportunity to go to college. Our dream is that through their education they will bring what they have learned back to their community, ultimately releasing their community from poverty.

Our dream is that we are able to sponsor multiple students and put them through a 4-year education.”

To get more information about how this whole thing came about go to http://www.wiseabe.com/ourstory.html.

And if you would like to learn more about the students that they are helping stop by http://www.wiseabe.com/ourstudents.html.

I also would like to share a little about Compassion’s Leadership Development Program:
Compassion’s Leadership Development Program, the world’s leading holistic child development ministry, releases children from poverty in the name of Jesus. The ministry serves more than 1.2 million children in 26 of the world’s poorest countries. Children in Compassion’s programs learn to thrive spiritually, economically, socially and physically. Compassion strives to help children become fulfilled, Christian adults who go on to shatter the cycle of poverty.”

Please, help a child in need, “buy a bag & help send a student to college”.

31 Bits

Has anyone other than me ever wondered why February only has 28 (or in cases such as this year 29) when there are some months that have 31 days and others with 30?

I mean – why not just even out the 31 day months with the 30 day months and give February a few extra days?

I’m sure there is a perfectly logical reason as to why this isn’t done.

But am I going to research it?

      Probably not.

      Why?

If I have thought that much into it to ask you and to bring it up, why not just check it out?

It would probably only take a few minutes to get an answer on the good ol’ google machine!

Here’s my answer – because it’s so much more fun shopping!

And when I’m shopping I am finding out about the companies that I tell you about and learning great things about them!

You know that I always try to have some sort of tie in with my little stories and the companies that I feature – so why should tonight be any different?

It’s not!

Numbers…how do numbers tie in? Specifically the number 31…

How about this – 31 Bits? http://31bits.com/shop/

I really, really like the accessories that 31 Bits sells.
31 Bits

They are super cute and could go with so many outfits!

If only I were independently wealthy and could buy all of the things that I like from everything I tell you about!

My closet would look like something the Kardashians might have!

But back to someone who does a lot more than the Kardashian clan does – well, maybe – there was that one episode where they helped the homeless man. J (Okay – busted, yes, it is my guilty pleasure. And yes, I know that they have a lot of haters out there, but they entertain me.)

So anyway – “31 Bits is a business using fashion and design to empower women to rise above poverty. We believe that business is one of the most powerful and sustainable approaches to turning scarcity into abundance, and eventually, alleviating poverty completely.”

“We are currently working with 108 women in Gulu, Uganda. We’ve combined successful development approaches with current design and fashion to create an innovative program for our women. We purchase jewelry from each woman on a monthly basis, providing them with an immediate, consistent, and fair income. Each piece of jewelry is handmade using 100% recycled paper and other local materials. By selling these products in the international market, we are able to generate a profit that is used to continue purchasing jewelry for our beneficiaries, as well provide them with numerous development programs, equipping them to develop a career and attain social equity on a local level.”

Not only does 31 Bits purchase jewelry from the women, but they also offer the following:

English Lessions
Finance Training
Community Groups
AIDS and Health Education
And Vocational Training
